Where is Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas, also called Los Cabo, is located along the southern tip of Baja California. The closest US city to Cabos San Lucas is San Diego, although it’s still 1,000 miles away.

It’s a very family-friendly destination and feels much safer than Cancun. Cabo has something for everybody whether you’re an ocean lover or enjoy a great night out. The Arch of Cabo San Lucas is the most iconic landmark of Cabo. It is a rock formation that was in the shape of an arch.

How to Get to the Arch of Cabo San Lucas

The only way to get close to Cabo San Lucas is by boat. I recommend choosing a cruise that allows snorkeling. The water’s visibility is usually good, and there are lots of aquatic life to see underwater. Make sure to bring your GoPro or Insta360 to take beautiful photos.

Snorkeling and Diving

Explore the vibrant underwater world of Cabo by snorkeling or diving in the crystal-clear waters. Snorlers love Santa Maria Cove and Chileno Bay. There are many sea lions to see near Pelican Rock, but it can get crowded. During the day, you’ll see lots of boats, snorkelers, and other scuba divers. Go early to beat the crowd. A few good dive shops in Cabo are Amigos del Mar and Dive Cabo. Cabo Pulmo is not too far from Cabo San Lucas and has great diving.

Whale Watching

Whale-watching season is from December to April. It’s the best time of the year to see humpback whales, gray whales, and even blue whales migrating through the area. Choose a sustainable tour guide and don’t chase or agitate the whales.

For the Adventure Traveler

If you enjoy an adrenaline rush, you have lots of options. If you want to stay on land, you can do an ATV tour in sandy dunes or go ziplining. Wild Canyon is a popular adventure park. Attractions include a giant swing, bungee jumping, and a water park. Tour companies also host fishing tours and provide everything you need.

The Best Beaches in Cabo

The beaches in Cabo San Lucas are much better than the ones in Cancun. You don’t have to deal with the smelly sargassum that Tulum and Cancun have to deal with every season because it’s not on the Caribbean side of Mexico. Catch a tan on Palmilla Beach or enjoy its calm waters. Or swim to Médano Beach, Lover’s Beach, or Divorce Beach. Some beaches, like Lover’s Beach, is only accessible by boat.

Sunset Cruises

The cruises are very fun and engaging so you can enjoy it solo or with friends. We made lots of new friends by the end of the cruise. Most cruises include dinner and a live DJ. Make sure to get there early and pack motion sickness medication.

Water Activities

Put on your reef-friendly sunscreen and go jet skiing, parasailing, paddleboarding, or kayaking at a local beach or resort. If you rent a car, you can enjoy the Santa Rita Hot Springs, located 1.5 hour drive from the city center.

Is Cabo Safe?

San Diego has double the crime as Cabo, so I can confidently say that Cabo San Lucas is pretty safe. Especially when compared to Mexican cities such as Tijuana and Acapulco. Cabo is a safe and family-friendly destination.

But as travelers, we must always err on precaution and practice safe travel practices, including visiting the U.S. State Department website to see if there are any Cabo travel warnings.
