Are you interested in staying at the Shenandoah Getaway House? We stayed at this cabin for a few days and had a fantastic time. The Getaway Houses have a great backstory. One of the founders is Jon Staff, a Minnesota native who grew up enjoying the outdoors. But as he started going up the corporate ladder, he found himself searching for more. He decided to quit his job and bought a trailer. His decision gave him more time to reflect and disconnect from life’s stressors. And that is how the idea behind Getaway Houses began. Now they have over 10 Getaway houses all across North America.
First Impressions of Getaway House Shenandoah
Where are the Getaway Houses?
Getaway House Shenandoah is about 2.5 hours from Washington, D.C. Leaving before rush hour is very important, or you can expect to add an extra 1.5 hours to your trip.
Getaway House Shenandoah is located deep in the country. Expect to see a few Confederate flags and lots of cows.
What’s on the Inside of Getaway House Shenandoah
Before you arrive at Getaway House Shenandoah, I suggest doing a few things.
- Pack your essentials. The closest major grocery store is about an hour away, but a small grocery store is 20 minutes away. The selection is small and closes early, but it is efficient for small runs.
- Bring your own coffee, water, and tea. I was shocked to see that these items were not complimentary. Instead, one packet of tea and coffee costs $2.50, and their eco-friendly water boxes cost $3.50.
- Their S’mores kit is not halal-friendly, but you can purchase gelatin-free marshmallows here.
Fun Things to Do in the Area
You can easily add a campfire kit to your Getaway Houses package. It was very easy to start, including wood, a fire starter, a lighter, and a grill. We made roasted oyster mushrooms and chicken on the grill while frying french fries on the stovetop. The cabin had all the cooking utensils we needed including a frying pan, pots, silverware, plates, bowls, and knives.
Hiking in the Shenandoah
One of the closest hiking trails to the Getaway House Shenandoah is Moorman’s Trail, a 2.5-mile that allows you to take a dip in the Blue Hole, the perfect swimming spot to cool off during the summer.
Luray Caverns
Luray Caverns is one of the largest cavern systems in the United States. It was discovered in 1878, and since then, it has captivated visitors with its stunning formations, including stalactites, stalagmites, and mirrored aqua blue pools.
Do Getaway Houses Have Wifi?
First things first, let’s talk tech. In today’s digitally driven world, the burning question on everyone’s mind is: Does the Getaway House have WiFi? Well, my friends, the answer might just surprise you. We had wifi in our cabin but the website makes it clear that some do not have a strong wifi signal. While some may fear the dreaded disconnection, the Getaway House embraces it wholeheartedly. Say goodbye to endless email notifications and hello to the sweet serenity of being off the grid. It’s a chance to disconnect from the chaos and reconnect with what truly matters.
But fear not! While you won’t find WiFi in some of these woodland wonders, you will discover something even better: an abundance of outlets. That’s right, you can still charge up your gadgets and gizmos to capture those picture-perfect moments or indulge in a late-night Netflix binge (we won’t tell). So, power up your devices, and let the adventures begin!
Are the Shenandoah Getaway Houses Safe?
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: safety. When you’re nestled in the heart of nature, it’s natural to wonder about your well-being. Rest assured, the Getaway cabins take safety seriously. They’ve covered you from secure locks on your cozy cabin to emergency protocols in place. Shenandoah is full of wildlife, such as deer, bobcats, black bears, and more, but we didn’t see any on our trip. But always make sure you check the news on recent sitings.
So, whether you’re seeking solace in solitude or craving connection with loved ones, the Getaway House Shenandoah awaits. Pack your bags, leave your worries behind, and prepare for an adventure unlike any other. After all, life’s too short to stay plugged in.
How Long Should I Stay in the Cabins?
I recommend staying at least 2 days in the cabins but 3-4 days is the sweet spot. This gives you enough time to explore local restaurants, go hiking, and completely detach from society.
